Louis Frowein came from Elberfeld, Germany. His family, which had founded a textile dynasty, had been at home here since the 17th century. He was a royal Prussian councillor of commerce and lived between 1808 and 1882. His daughter Anna Witte, ne Frowein, inscribed his name and dates of life on the reverse. She also states that
