It was the Contessa who brought the grafted vine cuttings of Primitivo to the estate as part of her dowry. The estate is on the land that was occupied by the Messapian tribes in the 7th century BC and is a treasure trove of archaeological finds. The estate was revived in the early 2000s by new owners
